The Metropolitan Golf Club has been part of Melbourne’s golfing landscape since 1908, when members moved to Oakleigh and began play on a course designed by member-engineer J. B. MacKenzie. Over time, the course has evolved through the influence of leading golf architects, including Dr Alister MacKenzie, Dick Wilson and Michael Clayton Golf Design, while remaining one of the defining clubs of the Melbourne Sandbelt. Its long history of championship golf, including Australian Opens, the WGC Match Play and other major events, reflects its standing as one of Australia’s premier golf venues.
Metropolitan is renowned for its strategic Sandbelt design, firm playing surfaces, precise bunkering and strong visual character. The course’s native vegetation, sandy soils and mature tree lines play an important role in shaping both the golfing experience and the broader landscape setting. GolfScape is proud to assist The Metropolitan Golf Club in continuing this legacy, supporting vegetation management that respects the course’s history, enhances its natural character and contributes to the long-term presentation, playability and ecological value of the property.
Support The Metropolitan Golf Club with expert consultancy to guide the implementation of its Vegetation Management Plan and ongoing indigenous vegetation works across the course. GolfScape has developed a hole-by-hole Vegetation Maintenance Plan, providing practical direction for The Metropolitan’s horticultural staff to manage vegetation areas with confidence, consistency and long-term purpose.
